An integrated zonal radar defense against drones has been developed by the Chelyabinsk-based Polet radio plant (part of the AIS holding of Rostec State Corporation). It is capable of detecting and suppressing various types of drones. The solution can be used both to cover one object and to scale up to ensure the security of an entire city. This was reported to Izvestia on December 18 by Rostec State Corporation.

It is based on the Sphere drone detection and suppression complex.

"The main element - the complex "Sphere" of various modifications - has already confirmed its effectiveness on the line of contact in the combat zone of the NWO. Mounted on a vehicle, it neutralized more than ten enemy combat drones on the move, which is confirmed by extracts from the combat log. In November this year, the Sfera-MB complex was tested at a research institute of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The military department included it in the register of recommended products that effectively counter UAVs," said Alexei Naumenko, Polet's general director.

According to the developers, the modularity of the Sphere allows the defense system to be configured based on specific goals and objectives. One of the priority areas of work of the Chelyabinsk Radio Plant "Polet" is the creation of a line of products to counter UAVs to ensure comprehensive protection of any object. It includes a range of products from mobile detectors and suppressors to multi-level defense systems.

The plant also develops and manufactures systems and complexes for civilian airports. The equipment for escorting takeoffs and landings ensures the safety of air harbors with any intensity of flights.

Earlier, on November 27, it became known that Russian scientists have developed and successfully tested an innovative system for the protection of objects under attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of aircraft type. When creating an innovative defense system in the calculations used the parameters of typical foreign attack UAV aircraft-type. As a result of the research, a tether-net system was created to protect important infrastructure.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
