Two cases of botulism due to sprats were recorded in Yekaterinburg


In Ekaterinburg, an investigation has been launched into two cases of botulism, which occurred after eating sprats, as reported by the Rospotrebnadzor department in the Sverdlovsk region on December 18.
The victims are two adult female relatives. According to the department, the women bought at the mini-market near the BOC from an unknown man with a truck "Sprats in oil from Baltic sprat carcasses" of the brand "For the Motherland". The date of manufacture of canned food is September 13, 2024.
"Botulinum toxin was detected in the products. Botulinum toxin was also detected in the blood of the sick. <...> The condition of the victims is assessed as severe. Remains of canned food were examined in FBUZ "Center of hygiene and epidemiology in the Sverdlovsk region", - reported in the Telegram-channel of the agency.
To search for the seller, the regional Department of Rospotrebnadzor sent information to law enforcement agencies.
Before that, on November 1, in Makhachkala, a woman contracted botulism due to injection with unregistered drug during wrinkle correction at a beautician. As reported by the Department of Rospotrebnadzor for the Republic of Dagestan, the woman was injected with botulinum toxin with unregistered drug Refinex. A few days later, the patient developed dizziness, weakness in her legs, difficulty breathing, and decreased vision. She was hospitalized in the infectious disease department.
