- The Foreign Ministry said that the cooperation agreement between Russia and CERN has been terminated

The cooperation agreement between Russia and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has been terminated since December 1. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, published on the portal of legal information on December 18.
"December 1, 2024 terminated the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and CERN on scientific and technical cooperation in the field of high-energy physics and other areas of mutual interest," - stated in the message.
In addition, the protocol to the agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and CERN was terminated. These documents, as noted in the message of the agency, were signed on April 16, 2019 in Geneva.
Earlier, on November 30, Russian presidential aide Andrei Fursenko said that foreign scientists were not in agreement with the exclusion of Russian specialists from CERN projects.
Prior to that, on November 8, the president of the Kurchatov Institute SRC Mikhail Kovalchuk recalled that the West began blocking Russian experts' access to CERN after the start of a special military operation. At the same time, they received an invitation to work at the center under certain conditions, which scientists from the Russian Federation did not accept, Kovalchuk pointed out.
The expulsion by CERN of hundreds of scientists from the Russian Federation, associated with Russian institutions, became known in mid-September. It was reported that this will happen if they do not move to scientific institutions of other countries. At the same time, work will continue with researchers from the Russian Federation under an agreement with the institute in Dubna.
