Indiana has carried out its first execution in 15 years

In the U.S. state of Indiana for the first time in 15 years carried out the death penalty. This was reported on December 18 by CNN with reference to representatives of the state prison.
Convicted of quadruple murder in 1997 Joseph Corcoran was declared dead at 00:44 local time (08:44 Moscow time). It was the first statewide execution since 2009 using a lethal dose of pentobarbital.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb said the executioner's case has been reviewed several times over the past 25 years, including by the state and U.S. Supreme Courts. He said the sentence has never been overturned and was carried out as ordered by the court.
At its most recent hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 16, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to halt the execution. Meanwhile, Corcoran's attorneys argued in court documents that the death penalty for the figure would violate the amendments because he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
It is noted that his wife Tahina Corcoran had asked the governor to commute the life sentence due to her husband's diagnosis.
The day before in China executed an ex-ex-official Li Jianping, who illegally embezzled hundreds of millions of dollars. It is known that the man illegally embezzled more than 1.43 billion yuan (more than $199 million), as well as received 577 million yuan (more than $80 million) from others and misused more than 1.05 billion yuan (more than $146 million) of public funds.
