With the coming of the New Year amidst the everyday hustle and bustle, many people try to capture the spirit of the holiday and the expectation of magic. For the majority of survey participants, the main symbol of the New Year is a Christmas tree. This is stated in the results of the survey of services "Cooper" and "SBER EAPTECA", which were read by "Izvestia" on December 19.

According to the analysts' research, 84% of respondents consider the main New Year's tradition to be the presence of a Christmas tree. The second place is occupied by tangerines (72%), and the third place is occupied by festive decoration of the house. In addition, women more often than men note that the New Year mood is created by decorated city streets (75%), snowfall (65%), watching Soviet movies (59%) and symbolic characters (55%), such as Father Frost, Snow Maiden, elves and reindeer.

For respondents in the 45-54 age group, New Year's celebrations are associated with champagne (58%), while for participants aged 18-34, the main association is the Christmas tree (86%) and music (1%).

According to the statistics, citrus and pine fragrances were the most sought-after scents among shoppers in the first half of 2024 and ranked among the top 10 best-selling essential oils. In addition, tea tree, lavender and peppermint scented essential oils made the list.

Demand for essential oils typically begins to increase in Q2-Q3. For example, in Q3-Q2024, the highest growth in sales of essential oils was registered in Penza - by 46% compared to Q2 of the same year, in Chita - by 44%, in Naberezhnye Chelny - by 41%, as well as in Magnitogorsk, Irkutsk and Novorossiysk - by 22%, according to experts.

"With the onset of the New Year among the everyday hustle and bustle, everyone is eager to catch the New Year mood and the approaching holiday. Essential oils will come to the rescue. They contribute to creating an atmosphere of coziness in the house, as well as effectively purify the air, killing bacteria and viruses," - summarized pharmacist and head of pharmacy "SBER EAPTECA" Natalia Bolotova.

Earlier, on December 17, an expert of the laboratory "Hemotest" doctor-gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh told "Izvestia" about the risks of ash in champagne on New Year's Eve. According to her, a small amount of ash in champagne is not harmful to the body, it is much more important not to overuse champagne at the festive table. This drink is quite deceptive, as it is easy to drink and as a result you can unnoticeably drink too much.
