Nutriciologist lists aging-inducing foods

To preserve beauty and youthfulness, it is important not only to take care of your skin, but also to watch your diet, because some foods can significantly accelerate the aging process. Darya Khaikina, endocrinologist and nutritionist at SM-Clinica, named the top 7 such foods in a conversation with Izvestia on December 19.
The first in her list was sugar, the excess of which destroys collagen and elastin - the main proteins that maintain skin elasticity. This leads to premature wrinkles and dullness. In addition, sugar provokes inflammatory processes in the body, which accelerates cell aging.
"Then there are trans fats, which are found in fast food, margarine, cookies and other industrial baked goods and impair blood circulation. This affects the skin, depriving it of oxygen and nutrients, which accelerates the aging process," said the specialist.
Alcohol is another product, or rather a drink, that is harmful to the skin, Haikina said. It dehydrates the body, which leads to loss of skin elasticity and wrinkles. It also reduces the level of vitamins A, B and C, which are important for cell regeneration.
"The harmful ones also include white bread and pasta. Refined flour products raise blood sugar levels, causing inflammation and worsening skin conditions. Constant consumption of these foods can also lead to a drastic decrease in energy and metabolic problems," the nutritionist noted.
In addition, she mentioned the harm of salty foods. Excessive salt intake retains water in the body, causing swelling and a "bloated" face. Over time, this leads to skin deterioration and increased strain on the heart.
"Sausages and cured meats contain preservatives and additives that increase oxidative stress in the body. This accelerates cell aging and also negatively affects the skin condition," the doctor noted.
Sweet sodas and juices rounded out the list. According to her, their high sugar content and lack of nutrients make them one of the worst drinks for the body. They promote collagen breakdown, worsen metabolism and increase inflammation.
In November, Daria Rusanova, a nutritionist, shared with Izvestia what products strengthen immunity and protect against acute respiratory viral infections. The doctor advised to consume products with prebiotics - fruits, vegetables, greens, legumes, mushrooms and whole grain products.
