The Russian Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces) have fulfilled in 2024 all the tasks set by the country's leadership. This was stated by the head of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov on December 18.

"Summarizing the performance of the Armed Forces this year, I note that all the tasks set by the country's leadership have been fulfilled," he said during a briefing for foreign military attaches.

According to Gerasimov, during the special military operation (SMO) significant experience in combat operations of various units was gained. Armaments and military equipment are being upgraded.

"We know what needs to be done and what tasks are to be solved," the head of the General Staff emphasized.

He noted that efforts to create conditions for the stabilization of the situation, as well as the balanced development of the Russian army and navy, aimed at ensuring the peaceful socio-economic progress of the country, will continue.

Earlier, on December 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at an enlarged meeting of the board of the Russian Defense Ministry that 2024 was a landmark year in the issue of achieving the goals of the special operation. He also added that Russian troops have a firm grip on the strategic initiative along the entire line of contact thanks to the professionalism and courage of the Russian Armed Forces, the work of defense companies and the nationwide support of the army and navy.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
