AvtoVAZ told facts about VAZ-2108 in honor of the 40th anniversary of the model

The first serial front-wheel drive car of AvtoVAZ, VAZ-2108, went into production on December 18, 1984. In honor of the 40th anniversary since the start of production, the company's press service shared facts about the model.

So, the first VAZ-2108 was beige in color and came not from the main conveyor, but from a special, training. Under the new family of front-wheel drive cars was purchased new equipment, and many technologies appeared at the plant for the first time, for example, plastic bumpers, galvanized body elements.

The novelty of the "eight" was also in the fact that the car for the first time in the practice of VAZ worked out from the point of view of aerodynamics. The model has a wedge-shaped body with large angles of inclination of the front and rear windows. The car received a folk nickname "zubilo".

VAZ-2108 was developed jointly with a group of foreign enterprises. In particular, the finalization of the design was carried out jointly with Porsche. To reduce the volume of modifications, more than 20 licenses were purchased from the world's famous manufacturers of components.

Immediately after the launch of production, the "eight" began to take part in circuit races and autocross, and in 1986 it went to the rally. Marathon cars Samara T3 (all-wheel drive, Porsche engine, 360 hp) became the culmination of the sports career.

On December 16, the head of AvtoVAZ Maxim Sokolov said that the classic SUV Lada Niva in Sport modification will enter pre-production at the end of December. The top manager also shared other upcoming novelties of AvtoVAZ. So, this winter Lada Vesta will be equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and climate control system. And during 2025 Niva Travel and Niva Legend will be equipped with new 1.8 liter engines.
