Warming up the engine without going on the road increases its wear and tear. Prolonged idling can lead to the formation of carbon deposits on cylinder walls and spark plugs, which reduces the efficiency of the engine and shortens its life, Pavel Konstantinov, director of the Lux mechanical repair department of Avilon AG, told Rossiyskaya Gazeta on December 18.

"If a car with a running engine is left unattended for a long period of time, there is a probability of overheating of individual components and fire. This is especially true for old cars with worn-out wiring and cooling systems," the expert also told.

In addition, according to the expert, warming up on the spot increases fuel consumption, which leads to additional costs, increased load on the fuel pump and fuel supply system. Finally, long engine idling pollutes the environment, it negatively affects the ecology and human health, especially if the car is located near residential buildings or in closed spaces.

On December 11, auto expert Andrei Egarmin explained that the installation of cardboard in front of the engine cooling radiators can lead to serious consequences. Due to the restriction of air flow, there is a risk of engine overheating, which can lead to engine damage, deformation of the cylinder head and other critical malfunctions.

Before that, on December 5, auto expert Dmitry Babaev said that one of the most common problems of car owners in winter is a frozen windshield. If electric heating of the glass is not provided, you can use folk and professional methods to combat frost and ice.
