There were 288 traffic accidents in Russia over the past day

Over the past day on the Russian roads there were 288 accidents, in which 42 people were killed and 352 injured. This was reported to "Izvestia" on Wednesday, December 18, by the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The accident, in which five people were killed, occurred on the 209th km of the federal highway Saransk - Surscon - Ulyanovsk. A citizen of Uzbekistan with a driving experience of two years, driving a passenger car in snowy conditions, in the authorized place went into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a truck. As a result of the accident, the driver and four passengers of the passenger car, all citizens of Uzbekistan, were killed. The driver of the truck was injured and hospitalized.

As a result of 110 accidents, 59 of which occurred at crosswalks and 51 outside their zone of action, eight pedestrians were killed and another 103 were injured of varying severity. Among the injured pedestrians were 19 children, 15 of whom were injured at crosswalks.

With the participation of buses on Tuesday, 27 accidents were recorded, in which two people died, 44 required medical care. The cause of 15 accidents was the violation of traffic rules by bus drivers. The accident involving a bus, in which two passengers died, occurred on the 426th km of the regional highway Mogoytui - Sretensk - Olochi in the Transbaikal Territory. The 28-year-old driver of a shift bus, a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, was transporting 21 workers of a construction company. He failed to control the bus and drove it off the road to the right in the direction of travel, causing it to overturn. As a result of the accident, two passengers of the bus died, four more were injured and hospitalized.

With the participation of minors for the past day 30 accidents were registered, as a result of which one child was killed and 35 young road users were injured. A road accident in which a minor passenger was killed occurred in the Omsk region. At the 41st km of the road Marjanovka - Sherbakul the driver of a passenger car at an unregulated intersection at the exit from the secondary road did not give advantage in movement and collided with a truck following on the main road. As a result of the accident, the perpetrator of the accident was injured and hospitalized, and his 12-year-old passenger, who was in the back seat and was not wearing a seat belt, died of her injuries at the scene.

In addition, due to heavy snow, blizzard and gusty winds in the Krasnoyarsk region, traffic from the 5th to the 22nd km of the highway to Norilsk airport has been temporarily stopped.

"We urge motorists to pay special attention to the road situation and weather conditions. When driving in conditions of poor visibility, snowfall or blizzard, we recommend to reduce speed and increase distance, refuse from frequent rearrangements and avoid sharp maneuvers. If possible, try to avoid long car trips altogether, and in urban conditions it is better to choose public transportation," said "Izvestia" deputy head of the propaganda department of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Anton Belan.

When planning long-distance road trips, the State Automobile Inspectorate recommends drivers to familiarize themselves with operational information concerning changes in the organization of road traffic. In case of introduction of traffic restrictions or closure of road sections due to deteriorating weather conditions, the information is promptly placed in the media, on the pages of the official website of the State Automobile Inspectorate and on the official pages of service units in social networks.

December 12, the State Duma adopted a bill to increase a number of fines for traffic violations, the amendments should come into force from January 1, 2025. In particular, for exceeding the speed limit by 20-40 km / h (the most frequent violation of the rules) the fine will be 750 rubles instead of 500 rubles. The maximum fine for speeding (80 km/h and above) will increase from Br5 thousand to Br7.5 thousand.
