In Russia, prices for red caviar may fall by 10% after the New Year

In Russia, prices for red caviar, which jumped in the fall, may fall by 10% after the New Year. This was stated by the chairman of the Fish Union Alexander Panin on December 18.
"There is more than enough caviar, that is, there will be no shortage, caviar will remain for the post-New Year period, and will survive until Shrovetide. Yes, I am among those experts who say that after the New Year I expect a rebound downward.... I would definitely bet 10 percent that caviar will bounce back," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Panin said that there's enough caviar on the market and now one can find caviar at a price of Br10.5 thousand per 1 kg. Due to the high price compared to last year, the demand for caviar has fallen, he added.
In November this year it became known that the catch of salmon fish species in Russia barely reached 235.4 thousand tons. This is the worst figure for 20 years. It was reported that for the entire history of observations, the Russian Federation has set only two records for catches - 609 thousand tons in 2023 and almost 685 thousand tons in 2018. In the previous 80 years, the volume of fishing was much smaller.
On October 7, it became known that in Russia red caviar is becoming more expensive. Prices for it by October this year compared to October last year have already increased to 25% and up to 10% more may rise by the New Year. It is reported that the reason for the low volume of production was a natural feature - a two-year cyclical catch: in odd-numbered years it is high, in even-numbered years - low.
