A UAV team of Crimean paratroopers destroyed an Abrams tank in the Kursk border area

A UAV team of Crimean paratroopers has destroyed a US-made Ukrainian Abrams tank near Novoivanovka in Kursk Region's Novoivanovka district. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on December 18.

"The UAV calculation of paratroopers of the Guards Airborne Assault Don Cossack Regiment <...> using FPV drones with fiber optic wire control, which are not affected by the enemy's REB (electronic warfare system. - Ed.), attacked and destroyed a US-made Abrams tank," the ministry said in a statement.

A group of UAV operators went on duty at one of the most difficult sites in the Kursk region near the recently liberated village of Novoivanovka. Their task was to locate and destroy an enemy tank spotted near the forward positions of the Russian Armed Forces (AF).

After locating the Abrams, the platoon commander with the call sign Chekhov hit and immobilized the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) tank with an accurate FPV drone strike. With a second strike carried out by his subordinates, the equipment was finally destroyed.

"The combat work of FPV drone operators makes it easier for Airborne Forces assault teams to accomplish their tasks, which facilitates advancement and occupation of more favorable positions and boundaries. UAV calculations of the Airborne Forces daily destroy AFU combat equipment in the Kursk region, both Soviet and Western-made", - concluded in the department.

Earlier, on December 13, a Russian serviceman, a drone operator with the call sign Rassvet, told Izvestia about his experience of destroying the first Abrams tank and how the picture of the conflict has changed since then. The fighter said that since the capture of Avdeevka, "everything has changed colossally." Today, UAVs are used everywhere, including for mines, reconnaissance, relaying, and electronic warfare.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
