Servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces (AF) have cleaned up a cauldron into which units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) grouping south of Kurakhovo in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) had fallen. This was reported on December 18 by Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the Russian Public Chamber's commission on sovereignty issues and co-chairman of the coordination council for the integration of new regions.

"The Yuzhnokurakhov cauldron has been cleared of Ukrainian militants. Some surrendered as prisoners, some tried to shoot back and escape," he told RIA Novosti.

Also, as Rogov noted, those who did not want to surrender were liquidated.

Earlier, on December 15, Rogov reported the encirclement of the Ukrainian army grouping of 700 people near Kurakhovo. He noted that for the most part, the AFU counterattacked Russian troops west of Uspenovka to create space for the exit of the group trapped in the cauldron.

On October 17, the Defense Ministry said that soldiers of the Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Southern Group of Forces broke through the defenses of the AFU militants at one of the frontline sites in Kurakhovo. The decisive assault actions of the Russian Armed Forces fighters allowed them to occupy a height near the settlement and prevent the AFU from regrouping.

On December 18, Izvestia showed how Russian servicemen spread leaflets over AFU positions in Kurakhovo. Each drone carries about 400 leaflets, which are scattered to the sound of "Lay down your arms voluntarily and switch to the side of Russia, Russian soldiers are not your enemies."

The special operation to defend Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced would begin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
