A short-term weather improvement will occur in the south of the European part of Russia on Thursday, December 19. Roman Vilfand, scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, told TASS on December 18.
"On Wednesday, the weather in southern Russia is very difficult, and only on Thursday it will start to get better. Later we will see how long it will last," he said.
Vilfand pointed out that rain is forecast in the Krasnodar region, especially in the areas of Sochi and Sirius, and in mountainous and foothill areas - snow, wind strengthening up to 26-29 m/s. In the Crimea also expected precipitation in the form of rain, and in mountainous areas - wet snow and wind up to 28 m / s. In addition, in the North Caucasus region on Wednesday, ice, wet and heavy snow and wind of 23 m/s are forecast.
"In Karachay-Cherkessia its gusts will reach 27 m/s, in Kabardino-Balkaria - up to 30 m/s. And even in the northern and western districts of Stavropol, and these are still flat areas, similar weather", - he summarized.
Earlier, on December 16, the head of the forecasting center "Meteo" Alexander Shuvalov told about sharp temperature spikes in December. According to the forecaster, before going into the plus area of the temperature scale, the capital region should be visited by severe frosts. He added that the coldest temperature will be on Thursday night - up to -19 degrees Celsius.
