- Russian Armed Forces anti-aircraft gunners destroyed an AFU drone of the "Baba-Yaga" type in the North-Eastern European Defense Forces zone

Soldiers of the ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft system of the Center group of troops have destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) of the "Baba Yaga" type in the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction of the special military operation (SMO). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on December 18.
It is specified that Russian anti-aircraft gunners in round-the-clock mode are providing cover for units, destroying enemy strike and reconnaissance drones. For example, the group's air defense calculations in case of visual detection of an aircraft open fire on it from two automatic cannons 2A14 of 23 mm caliber. It is important to take into account the altitude, range and type of drone.
"This device has two sights - a collimator sight for aerial targets and a conventional ground sight. We work with our own means, we master, we manage to put our thermal imaging sights here somehow and use them to work and orient ourselves. They have a good spread, the shells tend to explode in the air, so the drone is hit not by direct hits, but by shrapnel," said gun commander Staff Sergeant Alexander Novoselkin.
In addition, anti-aircraft gunners use machine gun crews and small arms to defeat low-flying UAVs and enemy drones. Soldiers of the Center Group of Forces unit also provide air cover for ground forces, preserving the lives of personnel, weapons and military equipment.
Earlier, on December 17, a unit of the Center group's Strela-10 surface-to-air missile system destroyed an enemy UAV Leleka in the Krasnoarmeysk direction of the special operation. The unit provided cover for the ground grouping of Russian units, destroying the enemy drone.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made in connection with the aggravation of the situation in the region.
