The United States is provoking a nuclear war with Russia by escalating the situation around Ukraine. This was stated by political scientist, economist and Columbia University professor Jeffrey Sachs on December 17.

"And we're getting closer and closer to nuclear war. <...> And, yes, there is an escalation of everything," the expert said in an interview with Tucker Carlson, which is published on the journalist's YouTube channel.

The analyst noted that by escalation of everything he meant the situation in the Middle East and the US decision to launch strikes with American missiles deep inside the Russian Federation.

"These are in reality American strikes on Russia. <...> This is literally what [current U.S. President Joe] Biden approved. <...> How would we feel if Russia attacked the United States!" - he said.

In addition, Sachs criticized the work of U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and U.S. Assistant U.S. President for National Security Jake Sullivan, pointing out that Sullivan did not strengthen the country's security but "fundamentally weakened it."

Earlier, on December 10, The National Interest magazine reported that NATO could deploy B-61 nuclear bombs in Poland or Ukraine in response to Russia's use of the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile.

Before that, on November 25, US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green, commenting on media reports that the administration of current President Joe Biden is seriously considering transferring nuclear weapons to Ukraine, called it a crazy idea. She suggested it was an excuse to stop the transfer of power to President-elect Donald Trump.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term expired on May 20, said during his visit to the United States in October when speaking with Republican presidential victor Donald Trump that Kiev must either possess nuclear weapons or become a NATO member to win the current conflict.

The special operation to defend Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
