Twice Hero of the Soviet Union pilot-cosmonaut Boris Volynov among other members of the cosmonaut squad took part in the domestic lunar program and was preparing for landing on the Earth's satellite. About this he told in an interview with Izvestia. The conversation took place on the eve of his 90th birthday.

"The preparation was intense. We planned first to fly around the Moon, and then to land on its surface. In particular, during the training we learned to move in conditions similar to lunar gravity," said Boris Volynov.

He added that to simulate gravity similar to the lunar gravity, they made suspensions that compensated for body weight and walked on an inclined surface.

According to Boris Volynov, ideas of flights to other planets were also discussed, but there was no real preparation for such expeditions.

The Soviet manned lunar program was approved on August 3, 1964. It included two parallel programs: a lunar orbit and a crew landing on the surface of the satellite with a subsequent return to Earth.
