The Russian Defense Ministry reported about the feats of the Russian Armed Forces fighters in the special operation zone

On December 18, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on the exploits of servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces (AF) in the zone of the special military operation (SMO).

As noted in the ministry, the unit, which included Sergeant Maxim Nekrasov, was in the defensive order in one of the most likely directions of attack of the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). While serving at a visual observation post, the serviceman detected an enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group moving stealthily in the direction of the Russian troops' positions.

Having timely notified his command of the detected enemy, Nekrasov took an advantageous position and opened fire on the Ukrainian militants. Being under constant mortar fire, the serviceman was able to restrain the enemy and prevented his further advance, forcing him to take the battle in open terrain. During the battle he killed several AFU fighters with the help of small arms, and under heavy artillery fire evacuated two wounded comrades to a safe place for first aid. Nekrasov's brave and decisive actions prevented the enemy from attacking the Russian positions. Having suffered heavy losses, the enemy saboteurs retreated.

The Defense Ministry also drew attention to the merits of Sergeant Denis Zhitchenko, who, commanding a mortar unit, carried out tasks to provide fire support for the offensive of Russian troops in one of the tactical directions. While conducting aerial reconnaissance with the help of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), he discovered a well-camouflaged AFU stronghold at a short distance from the line of contact that prevented Russian attack aircraft from advancing.

Zhitchenko promptly made calculations to inflict fire damage on the enemy and organized competent management of mortar fire of his calculation. In the battle after strikes he timely changed positions and took the gun out from under the return fire of Ukrainian militants, which saved the life of the calculation and provided continuous fire support to the advancing Russian troops. Thanks to Zhitchenko's prompt and professional actions, the enemy stronghold was destroyed, which contributed to the unimpeded advance of Russian troops and consolidation in the new territories.

The day before, on December 17, it was reported that the UAV of the "North" group of troops of the Russian Armed Forces had disrupted road mining by AFU militants in Kharkiv region. The objective control footage shows the detection of the enemy and the subsequent abandonment of their positions by the AFU militants after the attack.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made due to the aggravation of the situation in the region.
