A briefcase containing material with a radioactive isotope of germanium has disappeared in the United States. This became known on December 17 from the report of the American Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

"The shipping container arrived at its destination damaged and empty. The licensee (cancer center in the state of New Jersey. - Ed.) filed a claim to the shipper," - stated in the report.

The commission noted that it is about "an insignificant amount of radioactive material", the level of radiation is not considered dangerous.

In September, customs at Sheremetyevo seized a radioactive watch from a passenger from China. The man was boarding through the "green" corridor when the radiation control system went off. During luggage inspection, a radiometer-spectrometer showed that the radiation level was 16 times higher than the permissible norm. The passenger explained that he had bought the watch for personal use.
