Expert predicted the ruble exchange rate this week

The dollar may fluctuate between Br99-105, euro - Br104-109.5, yuan - Br13.5-14.4 this week. Spartak Sobolev, head of the department of research and investment strategies of Alfa-Forex, told "Izvestia".

The Russian Central Bank set the dollar rate at 102.9979 rubles on December 18, the euro -108.34, the yuan - 13.96.

"The currency market has stabilized after sharp rate fluctuations at the beginning of the month and is preparing for the final decision of the Bank of Russia on the key rate in the outgoing year," the expert said.

In his opinion, the regulator is likely to continue tightening monetary policy on December 20, and the new level of the key rate will be from 23%. This will act as a temporary barrier to the weakening of the ruble.

"During the week, we expect the dollar to fluctuate between 99-105 rubles, the euro - 104-109.5 rubles, the yuan - 13.5-14.4 rubles. The oil market is steadily holding above the $70 level of Brent and at the close of the month allows to realize a new wave of large export sales of foreign currency to support the ruble," concluded Sobolev.

Earlier, December 6, the head of Sberbank German Gref said that there is no room for a serious weakening of the ruble. In his opinion, the dollar rate at the end of the next year, 2025, will be approximately 112-115 rubles. At the same time, he admitted that so far some weakening of the national currency is indeed present, but no surprises are expected: the ruble exchange rate will fluctuate depending on the situation.
