American businessman Ilon Musk on Tuesday, December 17, was surprised by the number of people pardoned by current US President Joe Biden.

"Wow," he wrote on his X (former Twitter) page in response to data showing that Biden has pardoned 8,062 people during his presidency.

The statistics also show that the 44th American president Barack Obama pardoned 1,927 people, while President-elect Donald Trump pardoned 237.

Earlier, on December 12, it was reported that Biden commuted sentences for 1,500 citizens and pardoned 39 prisoners, the highest number in a day among heads of state. He granted pardons to citizens who had been positively affected by imprisonment and released those people who expressed a desire to make society safer.

On Dec. 2, the president of the United States made the decision to pardon his son Hunter. Reacting to his father's decision, Hunter Biden stated that he intends to dedicate his life to helping people with addictions.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, commenting on the decision, noted that the president will not seek the attorney general's resignation, despite his opinion about the injustice in Hunter Biden's case. Jean-Pierre also pointed out that she did not see any contradictions in the words of the head of state.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Izvestia that Hunter's pardon is a caricature of democracy.

In September, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to nine counts of criminal tax evasion charges, and in June - to three counts in a weapons possession case.
