- Protests against Merz, candidate for Chancellor of Germany, are taking place in Germany

Protests are taking place in Germany against Friedrich Merz, candidate for the position of Chancellor of Germany and head of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). "Izvestia" on Tuesday, December 17, publishes footage from the scene.
"Merz is bad. He wants to send Ukraine Taurus missiles. He is crazy. He wants to make [the country's vice chancellor Robert] Habeck the economy minister again!" - said one of the protesters.
In the footage, people can be seen taking to the street with placards that read "Merz from BlackRock is the sunset of Germany," "Supply Taurus? Are you all crazy over there?".
Earlier, on December 10, Merz said that if he wins the election, he will decide on the supply of long-range missiles to Kiev in coordination with the United States. He added that if we start training the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) fighters to work with the Taurus now, it will take at least four months, and by then President-elect Donald Trump will already be in power in the United States.
Before that, on December 9, Merz arrived on an unannounced visit to Kiev. He said that he came to demonstrate that his party's parliamentary group firmly supports Ukraine.
