The coming year 2025 will be dedicated to the transition to a new model of higher education. This was announced on Tuesday, December 17, by the head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov at the meeting "On the preliminary results of 2024 and plans for 2025" with the rectors of Russian universities.

"This is an evolutionary process related to the improvement of the system. Among the principles of work that will be laid down in the new model are strengthening of fundamental principles and qualitative practice-oriented" - his words are quoted on the ministry's website.

Falkov noted that in 2025 the number of budgetary places for engineering, pedagogical and medical specialties will increase.

The minister announced the transformation of programs of the Ministry of Education and Science under the tasks of technological leadership, including new evaluation criteria in the program "Priority-2030" and a grant competition for student design bureaus. He also spoke about the planned analysis of the results of the pilot project to improve the quality of teaching fundamental disciplines in 50 universities and the subsequent dissemination of successful experience.

Earlier, on December 5, it was reported that the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation approved a new procedure for admission to universities. It was specified that the priority admission to budgetary places for bachelor's and specialist courses should be completed no later than August 2-3, the main stage of admission - August 6-7, additional - August 10-11, and admission to paid places - September 30.
