Instead of the USA, NATO has taken over the coordination of military aid deliveries to Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters on December 17, citing a source.

"This step, taken after the delay [of aid] for several months, will provide NATO with a more active role in the conflict," the material said.

It is noted that the North Atlantic Alliance will not be required to send its own troops to the Special Military Operation (SMO) zone.

According to the source, NATO's role in coordinating the delivery of military aid is an attempt to "protect the support mechanism" from further steps of the elected US President Donald Trump, who is skeptical of military aid to Kiev.

At the same time, the piece notes that the effect of this measure may be "limited" because NATO's dominant force is the United States.

Earlier in the day, Alexander Konkov, an associate professor of the political science department at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, said in a conversation with Izvestiya that the European Union (EU) countries are shifting the responsibility for financing Ukraine onto each other. According to him, on the one hand, representatives of the West want to encourage Kiev to continue the conflict, but on the other hand, there are domestic problems that need to be solved.

Before that, on December 13, CNN noted that the United States plans to transfer more military aid to Ukraine before the end of the presidential term of the current head of state Joe Biden. The material specifies that this contradicts the position of US President-elect Donald Trump. In an interview with Time magazine, he criticized the supply of arms to Ukraine, calling the measure an aggravation of the conflict, as the Western weapons the Ukrainian army strikes deep into Russia.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to defend Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
