VTsIOM tells about the attitude to the winnings of state lottery winners

Winners of state lotteries from Stoloto treat the money they have won rationally, just as they treat the money they have earned, said Valery Fedorov, Director General of the All-Russian Center for Public Opinion Research (VTsIOM). So he commented on the survey conducted by the public opinion research center among 500 winners of prizes from 1 to 500 million rubles.

According to the study, the absolute majority of respondents are in favor of a responsible attitude to money regardless of the source of its receipt (88%). For the most part, lottery winners prefer to spend money on improving living conditions (38%), helping relatives and friends (29%), closing debts/paying off loans (27%), buying a car or boat (15%).

According to Fedorov, the winners "strive not only to improve their lives, but also to help others." "Altruistic orientation is especially noticeable among young people," he added.

In general, winning first and foremost gives winners financial confidence. According to Ekaterina Tuton, deputy general director of S8 Capital (which includes Stoloto), "when winning over 1 million, 72% of respondents said they had gained financial confidence, and over 10 million - already 91%." "In this group, every fourth notes that even a big win does not change his values and attitude to life," said Tuton, adding that 36% of winners clearly realize that winning the lottery is a chance given by other lottery participants.

8 out of 10 respondents said that nothing has changed in their professional life after winning. Moreover, the respondents are not ready to sacrifice work, even if the amount of winnings amounted to 1 billion rubles.

Since 2014, all lotteries in Russia are state lotteries, their organizers are the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, and they are conducted under the state supervision of the Federal Tax Service of Russia. State lotteries distributed by Stoloto are a significant source of replenishment of the federal budget of the Russian Federation due to targeted allocations.
