From the beaches in Anapa and Temryuksky district of Krasnodar region removed 12.6 tons of sand, which was contaminated with fuel oil after a partial fuel spill due to the crash of two tankers in the Kerch Strait. This was reported by the operational headquarters in the Krasnodar region on December 17.
"12.6 tons of contaminated sand removed from the beaches in Anapa and Temryuksky district. According to the GU of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Krasnodar region, during the day volunteers and rescuers have cleared the coastline for 4.2 km", - stated in the message in the Telegram-channel of the headquarters.
They added that in the village of Vityazevo they have created a single headquarters of volunteers, where those wishing to help clean up oil pollution on Anapa beaches can apply.
The head of Rosprirodnadzor Svetlana Radionova also reported that oil products spilled along the coast of Krasnodar Krai from the village of Veselovka to the village of Blagoveshchenskaya.
"At the moment, oil spills are being cleaned up by the Emergency Situations Ministry and regional departments. Rosprirodnadzor is monitoring the completeness and sufficiency of the measures taken for the subsequent calculation of damage," - said the head of Rosprirodnadzor.
Earlier, on December 15, tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" suffered a disaster in the Kerch Strait due to bad weather. As a result, there was a spill of oil products. The tankers ran aground.
The first vessel evacuated 13 people: one of them died, 11 were injured. All 14 crew members were evacuated from the tanker Volgoneft-239 on Monday. Two criminal cases were opened over the incident, one of which was reclassified as more serious because of the death of a sailor.
Governor of the Krasnodar region Veniamin Kondratiev said that after the oil spill in four settlements of the Kuban introduced a state of high alert. Later, on December 17, he specified that after the accident with two tankers fuel oil was carried ashore for dozens of kilometers, two municipalities of the region introduced a state of emergency. Specialists have determined the algorithm of cleaning works.
Andrei Potakhov, acting head of the Emergency Situations Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Krasnodar Krai, said on the same day that the fuel oil spilled in pockets and the cleanup of contaminated areas is complicated by the storm that brings oil products from the sea - in some areas, it is likely that the cleanup will have to be done again.
