Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will head to Cairo to negotiate a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. This was reported by Reuters on December 17, citing sources.
"The sources said that an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is expected to be signed in the coming days," the material said.
Earlier in the day, the Saudi TV channel Al Hadath reported that the Palestinian movement Hamas and the Israeli authorities by the end of December may reach an agreement on the release of hostages.
On the same day, Al Jazeera reported that since the beginning of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the number of dead reached 45,028 Palestinians, with 106,962 people wounded.
The day before, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) told Izvestia that about 8,000 pregnant women in the Gaza Strip are in conditions of hunger. The Fund added that at least 345,000 people, including 38,000 teenage girls, live in hunger conditions in the Gaza Strip.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
