Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic intends to discuss a new gas contract with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, as well as the US sanctions against the company Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS). This was reported by the Pančevac news agency on December 17.

"I will have to talk to Putin about sanctions [against] NIS and the gas agreement," he said.

The Serbian president noted that the format of the talks has not been determined yet, but it is necessary to hold them.

Vucic announced thestart of negotiations with Russia and the United States over sanctions against NIS the day before after a meeting with representatives of the Serbian Security and Information Agency.

Amid reports of U.S. plans to impose sanctions against NIS, Vucic said on December 14 that Serbia was not ready to "even discuss" potential sanctions against Russia.

The Serbian president said that the information about the imminent introduction of sanctions by the United States was confirmed, but the country's leadership had not received the relevant official document. The President said that if such a document is received, he will try to talk to the United States and Russia in order to resolve the problem.
