Artillerymen of the 25th Combined Armed Forces Army destroy Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) fighters in the Serebryanskoye forestry area in the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR). The Russian military shared their combat experience with Izvestia on December 17.

Grad multiple rocket launcher system (MLRS) combat vehicles move along the front line about four times a day, with the Russian military often operating under tank fire.

"There were close calls. There were five firings, and then the tank started working. The arrival of the first came. We were given a correction, we worked off five more, the tank closer began to give arrivals. Already when we got ready, we were leaving, there were two more arrivals from behind," said the commander of the combat vehicle with the call sign Kapral.

The driver of the combat vehicle with the call sign Molodoy added that the Russian military had to "drive through the hillocks as soon as possible in order not to be shined by the drones."

At the same time, the commander of an artillery battery with the call sign Girya emphasized that the regiment has engineers who take reasonable initiatives to help Russian soldiers carry out their tasks.

Earlier in the day, retired LPR Lieutenant Colonel Andrei Marochko said that the Russian Armed Forces had entrenched themselves on an 8 km wide stretch along the Oskol River in the Kupyansk direction. According to him, after demining the coastal zone, Russian soldiers established long-term firing points and observation posts, as well as increased their forces and means and created stable logistical supply chains in many areas.

On the eve, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov said that the Russian Armed Forces fighters in 2024 liberated almost 4.5 thousand square kilometers of territories occupied by the enemy. However, Ukrainian militants still control less than 1% of the territories of the LNR and 25-30% of the territories of the DNR, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions. He also noted that the Russian Armed Forces have a firm grip on the strategic initiative along the entire line of contact.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
