In southern Russia, 2.6 tons of low-quality red caviar will be destroyed

More than 2.6 tons of pink salmon caviar produced from undetermined raw materials will be destroyed in the south of Russia. This was reported on December 17 by the Rosselkhoznadzor Department for Rostov, Volgograd and Astrakhan regions and the Republic of Kalmykia.
The agency on December 13 revealed the fact of receipt in the sale of more than 2.6 tons of pink salmon caviar on the territory of Volgograd and Astrakhan regions and the Republic of Kalmykia with a violation of traceability.
"Caviar was sent for realization to commercial facilities in the Volgograd and Astrakhan regions and the Republic of Kalmykia. However, when analyzing the system, it was found that the production electronic veterinary accompanying documents (eVDS) for this product on December 10, 2024 was canceled with the following reason: "Production of products from illogical volume", - stated in the message of the Department.
Thus, caviar was put into circulation with the use of raw materials of unknown origin, which does not provide traceability of products during production and is a violation.
It is specified that letters were sent to the address of economic entities on the need to withdraw low-quality and unsafe products from circulation and its destruction. Also, all necessary information was transferred to the Prosecutor's Office for appropriate response measures.
Earlier in the day it became known that Russians from January to November 2024 bought more than 5 million kg of red caviar, which is 12% more in volume compared to the same period in 2023. At the same time, experts found out that buyers are not yet ready to switch to imitation caviar: its sales decreased by 1% year-on-year to 1.6 million kg. According to analysts, the greatest increase in demand for caviar is observed in Chelyabinsk - by 41% year-on-year, up to 50 thousand kg. And the biggest decrease - in Nizhny Novgorod (-2%, up to 79 thousand kg). It is in this city there is a transition to more expensive caviar, but at the same time it is bought less often.
Prior to that, on November 26, the founder of the "Caviar" chain of stores, Evgeny Shuvalov, said that one should not expect an additional rise in caviar prices in December. According to him, conscientious sellers have already formed New Year stocks of products in warehouses, sales volumes are clear and there are no factors that can seriously affect prices on store shelves. At the same time, he clarified that before that prices had increased due to weak catches of salmon in the Far East during the 2024 salmon season, as well as due to rising costs for fish producers and manufacturers.
