An unusual phenomenon occurred on the Sun on December 15 - a large prominence, which caused a magnetic storm of class G1. Sergey Bogachev, head of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of IKI RAS, told Izvestia on December 17 about the magnetic storm.

"The day before yesterday, December 15, there was an interesting event on the Sun, a rather large prominence was thrown into space, about 500 thousand kilometers, such large-scale processes are rare. Now there is a magnetic storm, and it is caused by the fact that the prominence "caught" the Earth", - notes Bogachev.

According to him, this magnetic storm was not predicted as a strong and in general the forecast confirms that it is low-power, currently being at the level of G1, which is the minimum of the five classes of storms. It is also noted that the possibility of aurora borealis is sometimes associated with magnetic storms, but due to the low strength of the current storm, it is not expected.

"There are some chances that the storm will reach the G2 level, but still this level is not so strong, and we do not expect any consequences from it. The probability that the storm will reach the night is extremely low, so the forecast for the aurora is also negative," the scientist said.

Bogachev said that on December 17, magnetic storms will be small and localized, and by evening it is expected to be fully localized.

Earlier, on November 7, neurologist, medical expert of the laboratory "Hemotest" Ekaterina Demyanovskaya told "Izvestia" about how the magnetic storm affects people. According to her, magnetic storms mainly affect people with disorders of the vegetative nervous system.
