The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) calls on the political forces of the republic to work together to achieve a change of power in the country. This is stated in a declaration published on the party's website on December 17.

"The Socialist Party called on all healthy forces of our society to unite efforts for the earliest possible change of power in Moldova and the organization of truly free parliamentary elections," the document reads.

The party members emphasized that the republic is on the verge of social, economic and humanitarian catastrophe, and this is caused by the incompetent and adventurous actions of Moldovan President Maia Sandu and her PAS party. The leadership in Chisinau, according to the PSRM, is waging a "hybrid war" against the people of the country. In addition, Sandu and her party lacked the honor to recognize the loss in the second round of the presidential election, held on November 3 - the incumbent president won not due to a fair vote, but due to the falsification of its results at polling stations outside the republic.

The PSRM emphasized that there is no alternative to Russian gas in Moldova, and the welfare of the people of the republic and the development of its economy is impossible without solving the problem of energy supply in the country. The authorities headed by Sandu are completely dependent on external forces and are unable to solve such issues. PSRM believes that the country can be saved only by holding fair parliamentary elections and removing the current leadership of the republic from governing it.

Earlier, on December 13, the Moldovan parliament decided to introduce a state of emergency (state of emergency) from December 16 due to the threat of a humanitarian crisis in the country in connection with the possible suspension of Russian gas transit through Ukraine. The document specifies that the regime is introduced on the entire territory of the republic for 60 days. At the same time, Romanian Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja said that Bucharest had the resources to support Chisinau if it needed it.

On December 16, the day the state of emergency came into force, Moldovans were asked to lower the temperature in their homes to 19-21 degrees and to use energy-efficient equipment to save electricity. The company Termoelectrica SA, which heats Chisinau, gave citizens various tips on how to keep their apartments warm.

Before that, on December 6, the president of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR), Vadim Krasnoselsky, said that an economic state of emergency was being introduced in Transnistria due to the difficult situation in the energy sector. Later, on December 11, the DMR Supreme Soviet approved the presidential decree.

In November, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebryan said that a possible cessation of gas supplies to the DMR by Russia after the stoppage of Russian gas transit through Ukraine would turn into a humanitarian disaster. According to him, such a situation should be avoided by any state. On 22 November, the Moldovan energy minister said that Transnistria might face energy difficulties from 1 January if Russia's Gazprom stops gas supplies.
