Court extends arrest of ex-Defense Minister Ivanov's property for three months


Basmanny District Court of Moscow has extended the arrest of the property of former Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov for three months - until March 23, 2025. This follows from the ruling, which "Izvestiya" read on December 17.
The document also notes that the former Deputy Defense Minister distributed the stolen funds to the accounts of his parents, as well as his former and current wives.
"A set of investigative actions and operational-search activities established that the money obtained by criminal means, Ivanov distributed among his close relatives and trusted persons, including to the settlement accounts of his father, mother, former wife and the mother of his young daughter. <... >In connection with the above, the court considers it possible to extend the term of arrest on property until March 23, 2025," the ruling reads.
The arrest was extended for 42 accounts.
Ivanov's detention became known on April 23. The next day he was arrested. Ivanov is charged with taking a bribe in the amount of 1.185 billion rubles. According to the investigation, he entered into a criminal conspiracy with the heads of contractors working at the facilities of the Ministry of Defense, and signed contracts with them in exchange for illegal personal remuneration. On June 20, he was dismissed from his post. A friend of the former deputy minister, Sergei Borodin, and co-founder of Olimpsitistroy LLC, Alexander Fomin, were also taken into custody as part of the criminal case.
Accounts, assets and real estate belonging to the accused were arrested. In addition, the court seized two cars and a motorcycle of the official, including a Chevrolet Suburban. In April, Ivanov's apartment was searched.
On September 24, it became known about the arrest of the former deputy minister's mansion near Moscow, where a large sum of money was found, the funds were recognized as illegally obtained. The former deputy defense minister was accused of taking bribes for preferences in the construction of three cadet corps. The damage to the state amounted to more than 2.18 billion rubles. On September 28, the term of investigation of Ivanov's case was extended until December 23, 2024.
Later, on October 5, it was also reported that the cadet corps in Tver also figured in Ivanov's criminal case. It was noted that the former deputy head of the Defense Ministry received a bribe for the conclusion of contracts on favorable terms for the company Olimpsitistroy during the construction of three buildings.
