The CEC accepted the documents for registration of incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko for the election of the head of state. This was reported by BelTA agency on December 17.

Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTUB) Yuri Senko submitted all the necessary documents.

"Today, by the power of attorney of the President, I have completed the submission of documents to the Central Election Commission for registration of Alexander Grigorievich Lukashenko as a presidential candidate," he said.

Elections of the head of state will be held on January 26, 2025.

December 11, chairman of the Republican Party of Labor and Justice Alexander Khizhnyak filed documents for registration as a presidential candidate in Belarus.

Earlier, November 14, Lukashenko said that a woman could become president of Belarus in the future, but not now. He suggested that in time the country might be ready for a woman president, "for such a style," but so far it is not.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on October 24 that Russia would support the candidacy of the incumbent Belarusian leader. Peskov emphasized Lukashenko's value in the development of Belarus as a sovereign state and ally of Russia. He also pointed to the special friendly relations of Russian President Vladimir Putin with his Belarusian counterpart.
