- Russian Railways unveiled the import-substituted Sapsan in honor of the 15th anniversary of its launch

The Russian Railways (RZD) holding company presented a version of the Sapsan train with full modernization with domestic components. The presentation was timed to coincide with the 15th anniversary of the train's launch. This was reported to journalists on December 17 by the deputy head of the holding Ivan Kolesnikov.
"For all that this train is foreign-made by Siemens, a huge amount of work has been done, including over the past 15 years, to adapt this train for the purposes of operation in Russia," Kolesnikov said.
He noted that in any work people always rely on someone else's experience and the developments for "Sapsan" formed the basis of a new engineering school. Nevertheless, "Sapsan" had to be changed for Russian conditions, because the Russian Federation has a different climate, different circumstances of operation and railroad track. For 15 years, Russian specialists have formed their own understanding of how Sapsan units and assemblies should operate. Kolesnikov added that the first flight of the import-substituted "Sapsan" will take place on December 23.
Anton Petrov, Head of the High-Speed Rail Directorate of Russian Railways, noted that the difference between this train and other models is that domestic companies have mastered "Sapsan" without Siemens assistance. Service companies from the Russian Federation performed all the work using only Russian components.
Earlier, on September 12, Russian Railways reported that they updated the multimedia application of the "Sapsan" train. In particular, there appeared functions of navigation through railway stations and ordering a plaid during the trip. In addition, directly in the application you can read the online scoreboard of the Leningradsky station in Moscow and Moskovsky - in St. Petersburg. "Sapsan runs exactly between them.
