The New Year holidays, when Russians and their loved ones spend a lot of time at the festive table, eat a lot and rest, can lead to weight gain. On December 18, Oksana Mikhaleva, endocrinologist, nutritionist, Candidate of Medical Sciences and SM-Clinica, told Izvestia about what rules should be followed to avoid this.

The first advice that the specialist gave is not to cook too much food. This will avoid overeating and reduce the risk of poisoning. As the doctor noted, it is customary to eat food completely to please the person who prepared it. Therefore, a pre-compiled menu, designed for several days, will avoid excesses and preserve health, she emphasized.

"Ideally, food should be no more than the norm for the family. These can be festive dishes, but it is better if they are not so fatty. In addition, it is recommended to increase the share of vegetables and fruits, as well as to use non-caloric drinks," Mikhaleva added.

In addition, as the specialist pointed out, you should not consume large amounts of alcohol. In addition to the fact that it is harmful to the body as a whole, it has a high calorie content and significantly increases appetite, increasing the risk of overeating. At the same time, it is worth remembering that the stronger the drink, the more calories it contains, emphasized the nutritionist.

The third advice of the expert is to follow the usual dietary regimen with three meals a day. Even if the dishes will be more caloric, the portions should remain standard, said Mikhaleva. In addition, the expert recommended not to sit at the table for a long time.

"It is important to add physical activity to avoid weight gain. And it is not necessarily training in the gym. Both ordinary walks on the street and other activities will do, for example, you can go skating or skiing. The main thing is not to spend all the holidays at home at the table," - emphasized the nutritionist.

Earlier, on November 24, Natalia Kharchenko, candidate of medical sciences, gastroenterologist at the European Medical Center (EMC), told Izvestia abouthow to make New Year's dishes healthier. According to the expert, it is better to prepare classic recipes of festive dishes without adding mayonnaise. She also advised to choose lean meat, not to overeat and to limit alcohol consumption or give preference to dry wines.
