The problem with flaky skin in winter is quite common. One of the common mistakes is the use of scrubs on already dry skin. Irina Marchenko, dermatovenerologist, cosmetologist of the Semeynaya clinic chain, told Izvestia on December 18 about fatal mistakes in facial care in winter.

"Very hot water can dry out the skin, wash away the already little residual sebum in winter, which leads to skin itching, flaking, dry skin, sometimes even to the appearance of rashes on the body," Marchenko noted.

According to her, it is important to use emollients (moisturizing products) on the skin of the whole body, including the face, especially immediately after taking a bath or shower, as it helps to "seal" moisture in the skin after water procedures.

According to the expert, despite the cold temperatures and winter months, the UV index can exceed the value of 3 in a number of regions. Regular use of sun protection products can contribute to premature aging of the skin under the influence of light. Therefore, it is recommended to check your UV levels before going outdoors, especially if a long walk is planned. This can be done using a weather app or simply by entering a query into a search engine and specifying your region.

The problem of flaky skin during winter is quite common. One of the most common mistakes is using scrubs on already dried out skin. Although this treatment visually reduces the amount of dry scales, in the absence of systematic and intensive moisturizing, the skin reacts to the scrub as an aggressive treatment, which in turn exacerbates keratinization and flaking, creating a vicious cycle. The doctor also advised purchasing a humidifier due to the drying of the air during the heating season.

"Water-based products (often referred to as oil-in-water in cosmetology) can crystallize and freeze at low temperatures, leading to skin irritation. For a long time, almost all popular lines have become available in the cold creams, means with a greasier and denser texture, which create a protective film on the exposed areas," - summarized the doctor.

Earlier, on December 17, Natalia Tkachenko, cosmetic chemist and founder of the Roz Mary beauty brand, told Izvestia about the benefits of antioxidants in cosmetics. According to her, young skin needs antioxidants to preserve its youthfulness longer, especially in urban conditions where the level of free radicals is high.
