The new movie of the LIFE doc project "New World" is dedicated to the alliance between Russia and Indonesia

The LIFE doc editorial board presented a movie within the "New World" cycle . The issue is dedicated to cultural, historical and economic ties between Russia and Indonesia, demonstrating the uniqueness of interaction between the two countries, their rich heritage and prospects for further cooperation.

Indonesia, which today is one of the eight largest economies in the world, has maintained relations with Russia for decades. The history of bilateral ties dates back to the late 19th century, when the first Russian consulate opened in Jakarta (then Batavia). During the Soviet era, relations moved to a new level - the USSR helped the country by building stadiums, roads and hospitals.

The film emphasizes that today one of the key areas of Indonesia's development is joint projects with Russia - from the digitalization of the economy to the construction of floating nuclear power plants. Cultural interaction between the states is also at its peak.

Indonesians have a really warm attitude to Russian culture and politics. According to Wahid Supriyadi, Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia (2016-2020): "Indonesians adore Vladimir Putin, he has superpowers, and in my opinion he is the only real leader in this world, you have to follow him. We respect him a lot for supporting Muslims, we are admired. I believe that Russians share the values of Indonesians, we are very similar."

Indonesia's popularity as a tourist destination is growing every year. In 2023 alone, 160 thousand Russians visited the country, and direct flights from Moscow to Bali started in the fall of 2024. The movie explains what natural and cultural treasures of the country attract people to this destination - from the national stadium in Jakarta, built with the support of the USSR, to modern infrastructure projects that reflect the spirit of friendship between the two nations.
