The death of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces of the Russian Armed Forces, is a shock and an irreplaceable loss. This was stated by the vice-speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev on December 17.
"We worked closely with Igor Anatolyevich within the framework of the parliamentary investigation into the activities of US biolaboratories in Ukraine, and he provided our commission with invaluable professional, expert and analytical assistance," the senator wrote in his Telegram channel.
Kosachev also noted that General Kirillov displayed such qualities as decency, attentiveness and stress resistance during his work.
"I am sure that he was like that in his main mission in guarding the homeland and for the good of the Fatherland. <...> Eternal memory. Condolences to the families of the victims. The killers will be punished. Beyond any doubt and without mercy", - concluded the Deputy Speaker.
The death of Igor Kirillov and his assistant became known earlier in the day. The men were killed as a result of detonation of an explosive device planted in a scooter, standing near the entrance. The explosion occurred near a seven-story apartment building on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow. A criminal case has been opened over the incident.
At the disposal of "Izvestia" received footage, which shows that the scene is cordoned off. Law enforcement officials are clarifying all the circumstances. In the near future a number of examinations will be appointed, including medical and explosive-technical.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that Igor Kirillov had been systematically exposing the crimes of the West for many years, working fearlessly and never hiding behind the backs of others. He fought for the Motherland and for the truth, the diplomat concluded.
