Russian athletes who competed at the World Short Course Swimming Championships returned to Moscow from Budapest. Images from the airport on December 17 are published by Izvestia.
The swimmers were greeted at the airport in the best Russian traditions - with a loaf and folk songs. Evgeny Korotyshkin, vice-president of the Russian Aquatics Federation, also came to greet the athletes.
"The athletes have just arrived. Of course, we gathered the whole federation, preparing for this momentous day. We all wanted to surprise them, because they brought us a scattering of gold medals," he shared.
The athletes were presented with bouquets of flowers at the exit to the lobby, as well as congratulated on their well-deserved awards.
Earlier, on December 16, Russian President Vladimir Putincongratulated the athletes of the Russian national team, who won gold medals in the combined relay at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest. He also wished the athletes bright sporting achievements and all the best.
On December 15, with a world record, swimmers of the Russian national swimming team won gold medals in the 4x100 combined relay at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest. Kirill Prigoda, Miron Lifintsev, Andrei Minakov and Yegor Kornev participated in the final.
On December 14, Russian swimmers became world short water champions in the mixed 4x100m combined relay in Budapest. They showed a result of 3 min. 30.47 sec. and beat the USA team by 0.08 sec.
