The number of dead in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has exceeded 45 thousand people. This was reported by Al Jazeera TV channel on December 17.

"Since October 7, 2023, at least 45,028 Palestinians have been killed and 106,962 injured as a result of the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip," the publication said.

The publication pointed out that at least 20 people were killed in the latest Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attack on a United Nations school in southern Gaza.

Earlier, on December 16, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) told Izvestia that about 8,000 pregnant women in the Gaza Strip are facing starvation. The fund added that at least 345,000 people, including 38,000 teenage girls, live in hunger conditions in the Gaza Strip.

On December 14, Al-Jazeera TV channel reported that the Israeli military raided the Nuseirat refugee camp. According to the TV channel, 14 people were killed and about 30 wounded.

In November, the Commissioner General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Philip Lazzarini said during his speech in the fourth committee of the UN General Assembly that the number of dead and buried under the rubble in the Gaza Strip may exceed 43 thousand, and the number of injured - 103 thousand.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to massive rocket fire from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
