The situation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) fighters in Kursk Region is grim due to the superior forces of the Russian army. The Economist reported this on December 16, citing Ukrainian officers.

"The Russians have a huge advantage in almost everything - men, artillery, equipment - and are switching between mechanized and infantry attacks to achieve a powerful effect," said Ivan Bakrev, an AFU fighter.

He noted that Ukrainian fighters are also hampered by weather conditions. Snow, cold and rain force the AFU fighters to take defensive positions.

Earlier in the day it became known that the servicemen of the group of troops "North" destroyed a combat vehicle of the AFU in the Kursk region. It is noted that the technique was eliminated with the help of a kamikaze drone in the village of Daryino.

Before that, on December 14, it was reported that for the total time of fighting on the territory of the border areas of Kursk region AFU lost about 40.5 thousand fighters. In addition, during the same period, the Ukrainian army lost 311 artillery pieces, 1,131 vehicles and many other equipment in the Kursk border area.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The operation to destroy the militants continues.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
