Macron intends to travel to Mayotte after the hurricane hit the island

French President Emmanuel Macron said that he was going to travel to Mayotte after the island was hit by Hurricane Chido. He wrote this on his social network X (former Twitter) page on December 16.

"In the coming days, I will travel to Mayotte to support our fellow citizens, public servants and mobilized relief forces," Macron wrote.

He specified that in connection with the tragedy in the country will be declared national mourning.

Earlier in the day it became known that, according to preliminary information, in Mayotte from the hurricane "Chido" killed at least 21 people.

About the collapse of the strongest for 90 years tropical cyclone in Mayotte became known on December 14. According to meteorologists, the storm was accompanied by heavy precipitation and wind gusts up to 250 km / h. As noted by Minister of Ecology and Energy Agnès Pagné-Runachet, more than 15 thousand households were left without electricity due to the devastating natural disaster. Later, on December 15, it was reported that the death toll in the hurricane "Chido" in Mayotte could reach several thousand.
