In Tunisia, 12 Russians were detained and sent to a prison known for torture

In Tunisia, a group of Russian tourists were detained by local authorities and sent to a prison, which is famous for cruel conditions and torture. This was reported to "Izvestia" on December 17 by the fiancée of one of the detained travelers Anastasia.
According to the girl, her fiancé Sergei with a group of tourists from the Russian Federation went to the village of Haidra in Tunisia, and in November stopped contacting. After that, Anastasia was contacted by a relative of another member of the tourist group. He told her that the consular department of the Russian Federation of the Republic of Tunisia said that the tourists might be detained in the country.
"What they are all suspected of is unknown. They are just travelers who are interested in historical monuments, buildings," the girl noted.
Later it turned out that the tourists were detained in Gurzeni and were taken to the Mornagia prison, which is known for cruel detention conditions and torture. Anastasia said that the travelers were visited by representatives of the consulate, but due to the lack of interpreters, the investigation is moving very slowly. According to the girl's lawyer, along with the detainees there is also another Russian woman who is accused of stealing a yacht.
"According to a local resident who is helping us, there are only five sworn interpreters in Russian (only certified ones are allowed in court) in Tunisia, and apparently none of them want to mess with this. Because in case of interrogation of 11 people it will take a lot of time, and it is paid very little", - shared the girl.
In 2023, a Russian tourist named Luiza, who took a nude photo against a sacred eucalyptus tree in Tabanan on the Indonesian island of Bali, was detained by police. Authorities emphasize that signs have been posted everywhere near the tree, including in English and Russian, explaining what visitors can and cannot do in the area of the Babakan temple and surrounding eucalyptus trees.
