The 2S5 Hyacinth-S self-propelled guns of the Guards Tank Army of the Guards Tank Army of the "West" group of forces have destroyed camouflaged self-propelled artillery systems Krab and AS-90 of Western manufacture, as well as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) control point and accumulations of Ukrainian manpower in the zone of the special military operation (SMO). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on December 17.

According to the ministry, Russian scouts using UAVs uncovered new targets and transmitted the exact coordinates to the control center. After that, a decision was made to launch artillery strikes at the transmitted coordinates. Real-time footage of objective control from the UAV made it possible to make sure that the identified targets were destroyed.

After the artillerymen changed their firing positions to reserve ones to replenish ammunition and exclude return fire from the enemy.

It is noted that the 152-millimeter self-propelled gun "Hyacinth-S" on a tracked chassis is capable of hitting targets at a distance of 30 km. The unit also has armor protection, is highly maneuverable, and can fire direct fire or from closed positions.

"Also a member of the crew, he also works like everyone else. He is unpretentious, works, goes out, comes back in, everything is good," said the gun commander with the call sign Balu.

Earlier, on December 8, the Russian Armed Forces' Hyacinth-B gun crew destroyed an L119 howitzer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR). Also, FPV drone operators destroyed a Ukrainian Podnos mortar.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
