The meeting requested by the Russian side in the UN Security Council on the supply of Western weapons to Kiev is scheduled to be held on Friday, December 20. This was announced by Russia's first deputy permanent representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky on December 16.

"The meeting we have requested on the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine is scheduled for the next Friday, December 20," his message in his Telegram channel reads.

As specified Polyansky, it is planned that the meeting will begin at 15:00 local time (23:00 Moscow time).

Earlier, on December 13, CNN noted that the United States plans to transfer more military aid to Ukraine before the end of the presidential term of the current head of state Joe Biden. The material specifies that this contradicts the position of US President-elect Donald Trump. In an interview with Time magazine, he criticized the supply of arms to Ukraine, calling the measure an aggravation of the conflict, as the Ukrainian army strikes deep into Russia with Western weapons.

John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, said on December 12 that Biden had approved a new $988 million aid package for Ukraine. According to him, the United States will provide Kiev with additional military support until the end of the current administration's term.

Prior to that, retired US Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson told Izvestia on November 27 that the US ATACMS and British Storm Shadow missiles are like "children's toys" compared to the capabilities of the Russian Oreshnik ballistic missile. If necessary, he said, the Russian army could completely destroy NATO infrastructure in Europe.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Nov. 21 that Ukraine had used Western long-range weapons against the Russian state, causing the regional conflict to acquire elements of a global conflict. He said that in response, Russia responded with a live test of one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, the Oreshnik ballistic missile.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to defend Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
