Media learned of Trump's team's intention to strengthen the blocking of car shipments from China

The blockades of Chinese car supplies to the United States may be strengthened at the initiative of the team of the American president-elect Donald Trump. This was reported by Reuters on December 16.

"The proposals came from Trump's transition team, which was tasked with developing a strategy to quickly implement new automotive policies. This could deal a blow to sales and production of electric cars in the United States," the agency reported, citing internal documents.

It is specified that the list of proposed initiatives includes strengthening blocking measures against shipments of electric cars from China, imposing tariffs on all battery materials, and eliminating the tax credit for consumer purchases of electric cars.

The agency also noted that such a reduction in state support for the electric car sector could seriously hurt the business of entrepreneur Ilon Musk, whose company Tesla is the leading company in the U.S. market for electric cars.

On November 26, Trump said that on the day of his inauguration, January 20, 2025, he will impose import duties of 25% on all Canadian and Mexican goods if Ottawa and Mexico City do not manage to fundamentally change the situation with migration across the Canadian border.

At the time, he also promised to add 10% to export duties on goods from China. In another communication, he also proposed a 25% duty on "all products" for Mexico and Canada, saying he would sign an executive order to do so on his first day in office.

The election for the 47th president of the United States was held on November 5. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4%.
