NATO and the European Union are trying to maintain their weakening positions in Ukraine only for their own benefit, not for the sake of "freedom and democracy," Irish journalist Chay Bose said on Dec. 16.

"Why are they willing to support a vile dictatorship massacring its own people and led by a drug-addicted, extremely corrupt former actor? "Democracy and freedom" have nothing to do with it, it's all about Ukraine's vast untapped mineral wealth, estimated to be worth at least $11.5 trillion," he wrote on social network X (formerly Twitter).

According to Bose, Western countries are only interested in minerals such as lithium, titanium, nickel and cobalt, and for this reason they are ready to depopulate, make dependent and bankrupt Ukraine.

Earlier, on December 14, The New York Times reported that Ukraine had postponed the signing of a fossil agreement with the United States until the appointment of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. In its turn, the German newspaper Junge Welt wrote that Kiev was attracting international investment funds to the country's main assets.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in November that Ukraine would be in Western bondage for decades and pay for the debts with its residents, subsoil and territories.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
