Montenegro intends to send at least two military personnel to participate in the NATO Security Assistance and Training Unit (NSATU) initiative for Ukraine. This was announced by Prime Minister Milojko Spajic on Monday, December 16.

Spajic met at NATO headquarters with the alliance's Secretary General Mark Rutte, who thanked him for Podgorica's support for NATO's military presence in Latvia and Bulgaria, and praised the country's commitment to allocate 2% of GDP to defense this year.

"Ukraine needs our urgent support. All Allies must fulfill the commitments made at the Washington Summit," Rutte was quoted as saying on the alliance's website.

Earlier, on November 25, French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu said that 2.3 thousand soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) of the formation "Anna Kievskaya" trained in France went back to Ukraine to participate in combat operations. He noted that France was ready to continue training the Ukrainian military.

On the same day, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the NATO aid coordination mission for Ukraine would start in January 2025. According to him, the West's goal is to enable Ukraine to act from a position of strength.

On 6 November, the Ukrainian edition of New Voice reported that Western countries had trained more than 100,000 AFU military personnel. It was noted that about 20,000 Ukrainian military personnel were trained abroad in 2024.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
