Most of the regions (55) have started the fight against spontaneous dumps. Thus, they have started weighing garbage trucks after they have picked up waste at container sites, the Russian Environmental Operator (REO) reported.

To do this, garbage trucks must drive into a sorting facility and stand in a special place where sensors count their weight. After that, the data will be automatically transferred to the Federal State Information System for Accounting of Solid Municipal Waste (FGIS UTCO).

The REO specified that this measure will help to avoid the appearance of spontaneous dumps, when garbage trucks instead of sorting dump waste in inappropriate places, and incorrect calculation of the weight of generated waste. To strengthen work in this direction was urged by Denis Butsaev, General Director of the Russian Environmental Operator, during the meeting of the interdepartmental working group to address issues in the field of waste management.

"Every garbage truck should stand on the scales before getting to the enterprise of solid waste disposal. Data from the scales should be sent to our system FGIS UTCO. This methodology allows us to record the volume of waste that is generated in the country, because it is important for us not to allow distortions and inaccuracies. If we see that a garbage truck is completely full, we understand that it took all the waste from the containers and did not dump it anywhere on the way. It means that the tariff paid by citizens is not wasted, everything is in order. Unfortunately, this work has not yet been organized in all regions. However, we can already see positive dynamics: the number of regions that transmit data is systematically growing," Butsayev said.

According to him, Smolensk, Samara, Kaliningrad, Amur, Kirov regions and the Republic of Komi became the leading regions in the introduction of data on weight control. In these regions, more than 80% of waste management companies transmit information. At the same time, in 34 regions there is still no data transfer for any infrastructure facility that transmits weight control data to FGIS UTCO.

Earlier, on December 12, it was reported that REO proposed to oblige drivers of garbage trucks to photograph container sites after they have taken waste from it. It is assumed that this approach will reduce the number of people's complaints about the condition of container sites.
